About Us
Yolo Press is a small, family-run farming operation dedicated to producing flowers, jams, skincare products, and organic, extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality at an affordable price. The farm is located on the lower west side of the Sacramento Valley, where hot, sunny summer days are tempered by cool marine breezes at night, a combination producing the most flavorful olives and oils. Since we first began planting olive trees in 1991, our grove has grown steadily. We now harvest our olives from 1700 trees in 16 varieties that originate in Italy, Greece, Spain, and of course, California.
Our Method
One olive at a time: Our olives are hand-harvested to ensure the most gentle treatment of the fruit. Olives go directly from the grove to the mill as soon as they are harvested.
State-of-the-art equipment: Our Italian stainless steel centrifugal mill was installed in 2006.
Sustainable approach: All processing and storage equipment is stainless steel or glass; no plastic is used in the operation. After the oil is made, the resulting waste, called pomace, is returned to the olive grove as fertilizer. The oil itself is bottled for sale, and also serves as the principal ingredient in our handmade skincare products.
Diversification: In addition to maintaining a wild riparian corridor bordering the farm, we keep the cultivated land diversified by growing a wide variety of crops: apricots, figs, melons, flowers, and more. We use the fruits in our signature D. Madison & Daughters jams and marmalades, while the flowers are sold in bouquets or by the stem.
Worker-owned: All work on the farm is done by the Madison family.
